HOLLYWOOD BLACK FILM FESTIVAL 2008 ANNOUNCES CALL FOR ENTRIES
LOS ANGELES (December 1, 2007) — The Hollywood Black Film Festival (HBFF) today announced its Call for Entries for its 9th annual competitive festival for Black filmmakers. HBFF 2008 will be held June 3-8, 2008 in Beverly Hills, California. The festival will feature narrative and documentary features, short and student films, music videos and animation in its competitive program. HBFF also presents a separate Storyteller Competition for screenwriters.
“The goal of the festival is to provide a dynamic forum to showcase the work of Black filmmakers,” says Tanya Kersey, Founder & Festival Director. “HBFF 2008 will bring the work of accomplished and aspiring Black filmmakers to an environment encompassing the mainstream Hollywood community and Southern California film-going audiences.”
The festival will be accepting submissions through February 15, 2008. Films must have been completed since September 2006 and one of the film’s creative principals (director, writer or producer) must be Black or of African heritage.
The early-bird deadline for film and screenplay submissions is January 15, 2008, the final deadline is February 15, 2008. Submission forms and guidelines can be obtained by visiting the official festival website at http://www.hbff.org.
Commenting on the 2008 festival, Jacqueline Blaylock, Director of Programming, said: “The Hollywood Black Film Festival will continue to carve out its own distinctive niche in the festival world as we continue to expand and explore career opportunities for independent filmmakers. HBFF 2008 promises to be even bigger and better than last year’s event, which attracted more than 9,000 film-lovers including some of Hollywood’s most prominent acquisitions and development executives, agents, producers, directors and writers.”
The Hollywood Black Film Festival aims to enhance the careers of emerging and established Black North American filmmakers through a public exhibition and competition program, and bring independent works by Black filmmakers to Southern California area audiences, thereby fostering a greater appreciation for Black filmmaking.
